How do I deposit money to my Swiss bank account?

Once your account is open, you can deposit money to your account in several ways:
Choosing the most suitable method depends on the amount deposited, the degree of confidentiality and the convenience desired.

Cash deposit

Cash is deposited directly with your banker or with the teller.

Traveler's check deposit

You can deposit traveler's checks (Bank of America, Thomas Cook, America Express) to your account.

  • Fully refunded if lost or stolen
  • Better exchange rate than with cash
  • Travel costs
  • 1% issuing commission
  • 1% bank commission when the check is cashed

Securities deposit

You can deposit registered or bearer securities directly with your banker.
Advantages
Drawbacks
  • Confidentiality: as a general rule, bearer securities do not identify the owner
  • Travel costs

Transfer from another account
You can transfer money to your Swiss bank account from another account anywhere in the world.
Advantages
Drawbacks
  • Quick
  • No travel costs
  • No risk
  • The issuing bank will know that your Swiss bank account exists.

Receive a credit transfer
You can have international transactions paid directly to your Swiss bank account by bank transfer.
Advantages
Drawbacks
  • Quick (one to two days)
  • The payer will know that the Swiss account exists, in addition to the account number.


Deposit a personal check
You can cash a personal check to your account.
Advantages
Drawbacks
  • No travel costs
  • Very slow: the Swiss bank sends the check to the emitting bank. Can take up to 4 weeks.
  • Poor confidentiality: the emitting bank knows in which bank the check has been cashed

Deposit a cashier's check

You can ask your bank to make a cashier's check for you. The transaction takes place only between the emitting bank and the Swiss bank, without involving your identity.

  • More confidentiality than with personal checks: The check is made on the name of the bank and not on your name
  • Quicker than personal checks.
  • Partial confidentiality
